I'm the only dentist in Van Buren County. A county know for its historical sites in its seven villages. It's adjacent to the Des Moines River which makes for a perfect setting for its state park and outdoor recreation. The area is a mecca for deer hunting and fishing.
Keosauqua has three manufacturing firms and an updated hospital, recently awarded by the state and partners with the University of Iowa Hospital to provide all specialties at the facility. And of course agriculture is a big resource for the county. Keosauqua is home to its county's courthouse, another source of employment. The county borders Missouri so the practice draws from that state in addition to the rest of the county and adjacent towns.
Our school is county wide with two elementary pre-K to 7th grade in Douds and Farmington and 7th-12th grades in Keosauqua - the center of all extracurricular actives affiliated with the school.
I have been practicing dentistry for 30 plus years in this area. My staff consists of a hygienist, office manager (also an Assistant) with 29 years experience and one dental assistant with 3 years.
The building has been updated inside and out with a basement under the new addition which was done in 1993. Wheel chair entry is available in the rear of the building. The hygiene room is computerized, while the 2 operatories are fully equipped with digital X-rays, as well as computerized. The 4 year old panelipse machine and the disinfection/sterilization areas are centrally located between the two operatories.
I advertised through the phone book, our local county paper and by word of mouth.
Small towns have advantages, with those advantages you get to know the patients, their needs, likes and dislikes, which makes it easier to treat the patients. It is a great low key, lifestyle and wonderful place to raise a family.
